Purple Style Labs IPO Closes 1.35x Oversubscribed; NII Segment Lags

The ₹680 crore initial public offering of Purple Style Labs, the parent firm of Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop, has closed with a 1.35x subscription. While retail investors and institutions showed interest, high-net-worth individuals remained cautious. Investors are now focused on the company’s widening losses and rising debt as it prepares for its market debut.

Purple Style Labs, the operator of the luxury fashion retailer Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop, has concluded its initial public offering. The share sale, aimed at raising ₹680 crore, finished with an overall subscription of 1.35 times. This reflects a mix of investor sentiment, with demand primarily driven by retail buyers and institutional investors, even as the segment for non-institutional investors (NIIs) failed to fully cover its allotted shares.

The demand breakdown highlights a clear split in sentiment. Retail investors were the most active, oversubscribing their reserved portion 1.62 times. Qualified Institutional Buyers also participated actively, covering their segment 1.50 times. In contrast, the NII category—typically composed of wealthy individuals and corporate investors—ended with a subscription of 0.88 times. Within this group, the sub-segment for bids between ₹2 lakh and ₹10 lakh saw significantly lower interest, closing at 0.52 times. This mismatch suggests that while smaller investors show interest in the luxury retail space, larger individual investors remain cautious about the company's current financial health.

This hesitation aligns with the company’s recent financial disclosures, which have drawn attention from market observers. In the fiscal year 2026, Purple Style Labs reported a net loss of ₹285.40 crore, widening from the ₹188.38 crore loss reported in the previous year. Furthermore, the company’s balance sheet reflects substantial pressure, with total borrowings rising to ₹371.40 crore as of March 31, 2026. A notable concern for potential shareholders is the company's negative net worth, which stood at ₹52.28 crore for the same period.

Beyond the balance sheet, the company faces structural challenges that investors often monitor. The business model relies heavily on the womenswear segment, which accounts for a large portion of its business. Additionally, the company operates with significant debt levels, which creates pressure on future cash flows. There are also potential risks related to the intellectual property and licensing agreements that govern the 'Pernia's Pop-Up Shop' brand, which can affect long-term stability.

With the bidding process now complete, the company is moving toward its market debut. Shares are tentatively scheduled to be listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on September 7, 2026. As the listing date approaches, the key monitorable for the market will be how the stock performs given the financial losses and the lukewarm response from high-net-worth investors during the IPO process.
