Paras Healthcare IPO: ₹1,450 Crore Issue Opens for Bidding

Paras Healthcare has launched its ₹1,450 crore initial public offering to reduce debt and fund hospital expansion. While the company has achieved recent profitability, investors are looking at operational challenges, including payment delays from government schemes and strong competition from larger national hospital chains.

Paras Healthcare is entering the public market with an initial public offering (IPO) worth ₹1,450 crore. The issue is priced in the range of ₹660 to ₹693 per share and consists of a ₹500 crore fresh issue alongside a ₹950 crore offer for sale by existing shareholders. A major portion of the fresh funds, specifically ₹375 crore, is marked for paying off debt, which the company expects will improve its balance sheet strength for future growth.

Financial performance has shown improvement, with the company reporting a net profit of ₹44 crore in FY26, marking a turnaround after facing losses in earlier years. However, a closer look at the numbers shows that recent profit margins have been supported by deferred tax credits. For investors, the ability of the company to maintain these margins through core hospital operations rather than tax benefits remains a key point to monitor.

Operational success for the hospital chain currently depends on two opposing trends. On the positive side, occupancy rates improved to 69.7% in the first quarter of FY27. On the more challenging side, the company is dealing with rising receivable days, which hit 76.3 days in the latest quarter. This means the company often waits a long time to receive payments, particularly from government-sponsored healthcare schemes. High receivables can tie up cash, and managing these payment cycles is critical as the company grows.

Looking at the expansion strategy, the company plans to add 800 beds across its facilities in Gurugram and Ludhiana by March 2028. While expansion is necessary to increase revenue, it comes with execution risks. New hospitals typically take several years to become profitable. Investors will be watching to see if the company can manage this expansion without needing to take on significant new debt, which would offset the benefits of the current fundraising.

In the competitive landscape, Paras Healthcare operates in a space dominated by large, established national players like Max Healthcare Institute, Fortis Healthcare, and Apollo Hospitals. These competitors often have stronger brand recognition and larger networks. At a valuation of approximately 25.7 times its FY26 enterprise value to EBITDA, the IPO is fully priced compared to its sector. Success for the company will depend on its ability to improve operational efficiency, manage its payment collection cycles, and successfully commission its new capacity on time.
