Paras Healthcare IPO Reaches 39% Subscription on Final Day

The Rs 1,450-crore Paras Healthcare IPO saw muted response by mid-day on its last bidding session, with total subscription at 39 percent. While retail investors have oversubscribed their portion, non-institutional interest remains slow. Investors are assessing the company's regional footprint and debt reduction plans alongside the offer for sale component.

The initial public offering of Paras Healthcare, a hospital chain operator with a presence in North India, Bihar, and Jharkhand, is seeing a cautious response from investors on its third and final day of bidding. As of 10:55 am on October 23, the total subscription reached 39 percent. The total number of bids recorded stood at approximately 4.7 million shares against the 12.1 million shares on offer.

There is a notable difference in demand across investor categories. Retail participants have shown higher interest, oversubscribing their allocated portion by 1.5 times. In contrast, the non-institutional investor category has remained slow, with only 31 percent of their shares subscribed by the mid-morning mark. The grey market premium, which indicates investor sentiment regarding listing gains, is trading at around Rs 9 per share, suggesting a marginal gain of roughly 1.3 percent over the upper price band of Rs 693.

Institutional support for the company has been visible through anchor investments. Before the public issue opened, the company secured commitments totaling Rs 652.5 crore from major institutional names, including the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, BlackRock Global Funds, and the Government Pension Fund Global. This institutional interest contrasts with the slower uptake observed in the public bidding phase.

The Rs 1,450-crore IPO structure includes a fresh issue of shares worth Rs 500 crore and an offer for sale component of Rs 950 crore. The funds raised from the fresh issue are planned to be used primarily for debt repayment, with Rs 375 crore earmarked for this purpose. The remaining funds are intended for general corporate needs. Investors looking at the company’s business model should note the reliance on its eight hospitals, which have a combined capacity of 2,211 beds. The company has shared plans to expand its footprint by adding 300 beds in Gurugram and 500 beds in Ludhiana over the next two years, an expansion that will require careful execution to ensure the projected capacity comes online as planned.

The offer for sale component allows current shareholders, including promoter Dharminder Kumar Nagar and the private equity firm Creador, to reduce their holdings. For shareholders, the key monitorable following the close of the issue will be the final subscription figures and the company's ability to manage its debt-reduction timeline while simultaneously scaling infrastructure in a competitive healthcare market.
