Paras Healthcare IPO Opens Oct 21: Anchor Investors Bet ₹652 Cr

Paras Healthcare has raised ₹652.5 crore from institutional investors including BlackRock and ADIA ahead of its ₹1,450-crore IPO. The issue opens for subscription on October 21, with proceeds earmarked for debt reduction and hospital expansion. Investors should note the company's plan to reach over 3,000 beds by 2028.

Paras Healthcare has set the stage for its ₹1,450-crore initial public offering by securing ₹652.5 crore from anchor investors. This round included major global participants such as the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and BlackRock, along with significant domestic mutual funds, signaling institutional confidence before the public subscription period begins on October 21.

The hospital chain has set a price band of ₹660 to ₹693 per share for the offering. The IPO structure is a combination of a fresh share sale worth ₹500 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) of ₹950 crore. The OFS involves current shareholders, including promoter Dr. Dharminder Kumar Nagar and the private equity firm Creador, selling a portion of their stakes to the public.

A significant portion of the proceeds from the fresh issue, approximately ₹375 crore, is intended to pay down existing debt. Reducing borrowings is generally viewed as a positive step for capital-intensive businesses like hospital chains, as it helps strengthen the balance sheet and lowers interest expenses, which can improve the company's overall financial health.

Beyond debt repayment, the company is in an active phase of expansion. It currently operates eight hospitals across North India, Bihar, and Jharkhand with a total capacity of 2,211 beds. The management aims to scale this capacity to 3,011 beds by March 2028. Key upcoming projects include a 300-bed unit in Gurugram and a 500-bed hospital in Ludhiana, which are expected to become operational in the coming financial years.

While the growth plans are ambitious, investors should keep an eye on execution risks. The hospital business requires significant time to build infrastructure and even longer to ramp up patient occupancy in new facilities to reach break-even levels. Maintaining profit margins while managing large-scale construction and commissioning new beds will be a critical factor to monitor. The Indian healthcare sector remains highly competitive, with established players constantly expanding their footprint and upgrading medical technology. Tracking how efficiently the company completes its upcoming projects in Gurugram and Ludhiana, and how quickly these new beds begin contributing to revenue, will be important for assessing the company's long-term performance.
