Jio Platforms IPO Subscribed Fully In 35 Minutes

The Jio Platforms initial public offering saw full subscription within 35 minutes of opening today, led by strong institutional interest. The company raised over ₹8,100 crore from anchor investors, signaling solid demand for its digital and telecom business ahead of its market debut on October 28.

The Jio Platforms Limited initial public offering witnessed an immediate surge in demand, achieving full subscription within 35 minutes of opening for bids. By mid-morning on its first day, the issue was subscribed 1.01 times, with total bids for 20.03 crore shares compared to the 19.75 crore shares offered. This rapid uptake suggests strong confidence from investors, particularly among Qualified Institutional Buyers, who subscribed 3.25 times to their quota early in the session.

The company’s ability to attract major global investors before the public launch further highlights international interest in the Indian digital ecosystem. Ahead of the IPO, Jio Platforms secured ₹8,109.84 crore from 212 anchor investors on October 19. This list includes global names such as BlackRock, Fidelity Investments, T. Rowe Price, and major sovereign wealth funds like Singapore’s GIC and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.

Investors are comparing the offering with established sector players like Bharti Airtel. While Bharti Airtel currently reports growth in the 20-22% range, Jio Platforms has provided a growth guidance of 15-17%. Analysts note that while this growth expectation is slightly lower, the valuation is being seen as a discount that accounts for this gap. The company plans to sustain its performance through continued infrastructure investment and improvements in its pricing strategy.

For retail investors, it is important to balance this enthusiasm with the challenges of the telecom sector. Jio Platforms faces a competitive market where companies must spend heavily on digital infrastructure and network expansion. These ongoing capital requirements can pressure cash flow and require disciplined financial management. Furthermore, the sector is sensitive to regulatory changes and government policy decisions, which can impact profitability over the long term.

The stock is currently generating buzz in the unofficial grey market, with premiums trading between 22% and 23% above the issue price band of ₹1,065 to ₹1,119 per share. The IPO remains open for subscription until October 23. Investors will now track whether this initial momentum holds and how the stock performs upon its scheduled listing on the National Stock Exchange and the Bombay Stock Exchange on October 28.
