Edelweiss and SFC Environmental IPOs Open Next Week; MF Houses Expand Offerings

Edelweiss Alternative Asset Advisors and SFC Environmental Technologies have set their IPO price bands ahead of launches next week. Simultaneously, Sundaram and Choice Mutual Fund are diversifying their portfolios with new long-short and active equity strategies, providing investors with new options in a shifting market environment.

The Indian primary market is seeing a wave of activity as two significant public offerings prepare for subscription, while the mutual fund industry continues to diversify its product shelves. Edelweiss Alternative Asset Advisors and SFC Environmental Technologies have finalized their IPO price bands, setting the stage for a busy week in the Indian capital markets.

Edelweiss Alternative Asset Advisors has set a price band of ₹1,585 to ₹1,665 per share for its ₹1,200 crore initial public offering. The issue is structured entirely as an offer for sale, meaning existing promoters are selling their shares, and the company itself will not receive any capital from this offering. Investors should note that in an offer for sale, the proceeds go directly to the selling shareholders rather than the company to fund operations or expansion. The IPO is scheduled to open for subscription from October 26 to October 28, with a potential listing on November 2.

SFC Environmental Technologies is also launching its IPO with a price band of ₹313 to ₹330 per share. Unlike the Edelweiss issue, this offering is a mix of a fresh equity raise of ₹150 crore and an offer for sale of 15.7 million shares. The fresh capital raised is typically used by companies for growth, debt reduction, or capacity expansion, which investors often view as a different financial signal compared to a pure promoter exit. The subscription for this issue will open on October 27 and conclude on October 29. The book-building process for this transaction is managed by a group of financial institutions, including Axis Capital, Jefferies India, Motilal Oswal Investment Advisors, and Nuvama Wealth Management.

In the mutual fund space, fund houses are shifting their product focus to capture changing investor appetite. Sundaram Mutual Fund has introduced a specialized investment fund, the 'Select Equity Ex-Top 100 Long Short Fund.' This product uses a long-short strategy, where the fund aims to profit from both rising and falling stock prices. This is a complex approach compared to traditional mutual funds, designed to manage volatility by hedging positions. Investors in such funds should be aware that these strategies often come with higher operational complexity and potentially different cost structures compared to standard equity funds.

Simultaneously, Choice Mutual Fund is moving away from its initial focus on passive and debt-heavy products. The firm has launched its first actively managed large and mid-cap fund. An active fund relies on a fund manager's research and stock selection, rather than just tracking a market index. The move marks a significant shift in business strategy for the firm, which only started operations in late 2025. Investors tracking these launches may want to watch the performance of these new strategies in their initial phases, as active management outcomes can differ significantly based on the fund manager’s ability to pick winners versus a market index.
