India and EU Make Significant Progress on Free Trade Agreement Talks

Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal stated that India and the European Union (EU) have achieved "significant progress" in their Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations. During his recent visit to Brussels, he met with Maros Sefcovic, the EU Commissioner, where discussions on the FTA took place.

Goyal detailed that 10 out of the 20 chapters in the proposed agreement have been successfully closed. Furthermore, an additional four to five chapters have been agreed to in principle. He indicated that with the EU team's next visit, expected by the end of November or December, the agreement could be close to final closure.
