Detailed Coverage :

Cyprus is positioning itself as a key partner for India in the global shipping industry and international maritime routes. With one of the world's largest shipping fleets and a significant contribution to its GDP, Cyprus offers a robust 'One Stop Shipping Centre' and a geostrategic location attractive to global stakeholders, including Indian companies.

Bilateral shipping relations are accelerating, reinforced by a Joint Action Plan agreed upon following Prime Minister Modi's visit. Cyprus is keen on strengthening this partnership, encouraging more Indian shipping companies to establish a presence and fostering joint ventures. Cyprus is also the 10th largest source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) for India, primarily in services, IT, real estate, and pharmaceuticals.

Furthermore, Cyprus views the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) project with great importance, expressing readiness to participate. Its EU membership, business-friendly environment, modern infrastructure, and strong services sector, particularly shipping, make it a valuable hub for connectivity in security, trade, energy, and technology.

The security partnership between Cyprus and India is also expanding, with MoUs and cooperation programs in place. Cyprus strongly condemns terrorism and supports India's fight against cross-border terrorism.

Cyprus is actively seeking Indian investments in sectors such as ICT, science, technology, innovation, education, research, healthcare, tourism, hospitality, investment funds, shipping, filming, and renewable energy. It has demonstrated strong FDI attraction, securing €3.2 billion in 2023.

Impact This news is significant for investors as it signals potential growth in bilateral trade and logistics between India and Cyprus, enhanced connectivity through the IMEC project, and increased opportunities for Indian companies in Cyprus's thriving shipping and investment sectors. It could lead to more cross-border investments and strengthened economic ties. Impact Rating: 7/10
