Strengthening India-US Energy Ties
Ambassador Vinay Mohan Kwatra met with US Energy Secretary Chris Wright. The high-level meeting reinforced their shared goal of strengthening the India-US energy dialogue and exploring ways to collaborate more closely.
Key Areas for Cooperation
The discussions focused on cooperation in civil nuclear energy, coal gasification projects, and increasing US liquefied petroleum gas (LNG) exports to India. These efforts aim to diversify India's energy sources and secure its supply.
US Coal Becomes Major Indian Import
India has significantly increased energy imports from the US. In FY25, coking coal alone made up 40% of India's total 20 million tonnes of coal imports from the US. This positions India as the largest global buyer of US coal, showing a strong and growing trade link.
GAIL's LNG Shipment Boosts Partnership
Adding to the energy partnership, GAIL (India) Limited sent the LNG vessel Energy Fidelity from the Sabine Pass LNG Terminal on April 20. This move, part of GAIL's long-term shipping plans, is a practical step toward securing cleaner fuel supplies and deepening cooperation in the global energy market.
