India Issues Saudi Travel Advisory; Flights Paused to Oct 17

The Indian Embassy in Riyadh has directed citizens to stay indoors and avoid filming security operations following recent drone and missile attacks. Multiple Indian airlines have suspended flights to Saudi Arabia until October 17, affecting thousands of travelers. Emergency control rooms have been opened in Makkah and Jeddah to support those impacted.

The Indian Embassy in Riyadh issued a safety directive on Thursday, urging all Indian expatriates to remain indoors and strictly follow local safety protocols. This advisory follows a series of drone and missile strikes targeting critical infrastructure, primarily attributed to Houthi insurgents. Beyond general safety, the embassy specifically warned residents against filming or sharing footage of security operations, noting that such actions could lead to legal consequences under local laws.

Commercial air travel between India and Saudi Arabia is currently experiencing a significant disruption. Several major Indian carriers, including Air India, Air India Express, Akasa Air, and IndiGo, have announced the total suspension of services to and from the region. These cancellations are scheduled to remain in effect at least until October 17. While some international carriers continue limited operations out of specific airports like Dammam, Jeddah, and Medina, the widespread suspension has created logistical challenges for travelers, including those on Umrah pilgrimages.

Regarding the humanitarian situation following the October 10 strike at King Khalid International Airport, consular officials have confirmed that seven Indian citizens were involved. As of Thursday, three individuals remain under intensive or high-dependency medical care, three are receiving treatment in general wards, and one person has been discharged.

To assist those affected by the travel suspension and the ongoing security situation, the Indian Consulate in Jeddah and the Haj Pilgrims Office in Makkah have activated emergency control rooms. These centers are tasked with providing logistical support and real-time updates for residents and stranded travelers.

For investors and travelers, the situation remains fluid. The primary factor to monitor is the duration of these flight suspensions. Any extension beyond October 17 would further impact the operational schedules of major airlines operating on these routes. Travelers and stakeholders are advised to maintain constant communication with their respective airlines for updates on flight restoration and repatriation options. The diplomatic mission has suggested that travelers requiring urgent movement may look into transit hubs in neighboring countries, provided they secure the necessary entry documentation for those jurisdictions.
