The Indian government think-tank Niti Aayog, through its Frontier Tech Hub, in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Deloitte, has released a significant roadmap titled “Reimagining Manufacturing: India’s Roadmap to Global Leadership in Advanced Manufacturing”. This strategic plan, developed with input from industry leaders, aims to propel India into a global manufacturing powerhouse. It outlines a sector-specific approach to leverage cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), advanced materials, digital twins, and robotics. The roadmap identifies 13 priority manufacturing sectors for focused development. Key objectives include increasing manufacturing's share in India's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to over 25%, generating more than 100 million jobs, and establishing India as a top three global hub for advanced manufacturing by 2035. The initiative also emphasizes enhancing R&D ecosystems, industrial infrastructure, and workforce development. Failure to adopt these critical technologies by 2035 could result in a loss of approximately $270 billion in potential manufacturing GDP.
