Detailed Coverage :

Neptunus Power Plant Services Pvt Ltd has announced a strategic collaboration with the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This pact focuses on advancing indigenous marine engine condition-monitoring technology, aligning with the 'Make in India' initiative. The goal is to widely implement data-driven maintenance and digital diagnostics throughout India's shipping sector, fostering maritime innovation based on local research and manufacturing.

The MoU was formalized at Maritime India Week 2025. A significant outcome is the Type Approval Certification awarded by IRS to Neptunus for its VIB 360 - Engine Condition Monitoring System and Torque Sense SHAPOLI. This certification is a world-first for marine diesel engine and propulsion system condition-monitoring technologies that are both indigenously developed and certified by the IRS. It highlights India's growing capability in producing globally compliant, export-ready maritime solutions.

Traditionally, ship maintenance relied on fixed schedules set by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), which were often conservative and expensive. Neptunus's VIB 360 system enables a shift towards Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM). This approach optimises maintenance by performing it only when needed, based on the actual condition of the equipment. Benefits include eliminating unplanned downtime, enhancing operational reliability, reducing maintenance costs by up to 30 per cent, improving fuel efficiency, and consequently lowering emissions.

Uday Purohit, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Neptunus Power Plant Services, stated that the MoU reinforces their belief in Indian engineering's potential to influence the global maritime future.

Impact: This development is significant for the Indian maritime industry, promoting self-reliance in critical technology and potentially creating export opportunities. It can lead to cost savings and efficiency gains for Indian shipping companies. Rating: 7/10

Difficult Terms: - Indigenous: Developed or produced in one's own country. - Digital diagnostics: Using digital technologies to identify problems or conditions in machinery or systems. - Maritime innovation: New ideas, methods, or products in the field of shipping and seafaring. - Type Approval Certification: An official document confirming that a specific product or system meets certain standards and regulations. - Engine Condition Monitoring System: A system designed to track the performance and health of an engine to predict potential issues. - Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM): A maintenance strategy where maintenance is performed only when equipment condition indicates it is necessary, as opposed to scheduled maintenance.
