Heading: GCCs Drive Growth in India's Corporate Catering Sector
The rapid expansion of Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in India is providing a significant boost to the corporate catering industry. Leading food service companies are noting a substantial increase in GCC clients, who now form a large portion of their institutional business. Unlike traditional corporate clients, GCCs focus on offering varied, healthy, and global food experiences to cater to their diverse and multi-generational workforces.
Rohit Sawhney, CEO of Elior India, stated that GCCs view food as a critical component of the employee experience, expecting continuous innovation and variety. Food services now account for approximately 80% of Elior India's revenue, which has grown by about 120% in the past 3-4 years, largely due to deeper partnerships with GCCs. Elior India also benefits from longer-term contracts (3-5 years) with GCCs compared to traditional clients (1-3 years). Some large GCC clients now require 12,000-13,000 meals daily as they scale their operations.
Vikas Chawla, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Compass Group India, also highlighted the building of long-term relationships with GCCs, who are investing in premium, tech-enabled food service solutions with a strong emphasis on HSEQ standards. Over half of Compass Group's India business comes from its 125+ GCC clients, with this segment experiencing a 51% Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) over the last three years.
In response, food service providers are expanding their kitchen infrastructure. Elior operates 6 kitchens in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi, and Pune, with plans for new kitchens in Mumbai and Chennai. Compass Group operates 10 central kitchens across India, with recent expansions in Pune, Bengaluru, and Delhi. This expansion supports the diverse menus being offered, including over 200 curated food programmes by Compass Group catering to both Indian and international cuisines, reflecting the varied backgrounds of GCC employees.
Impact This news has a positive impact on the corporate catering and food service industry in India, indicating strong business growth and expansion for companies serving the GCC sector. It reflects robust corporate spending and employment trends in India. Rating: 7/10
