Wipro Kawasaki to Invest ₹1,000 Crore in New Karnataka Plant

Wipro Kawasaki Precision Machinery has announced a ₹1,000 crore investment to build a new hydraulic pump manufacturing facility in Harohalli, Karnataka. The project is expected to create 1,200 jobs and more than double the company's annual production capacity to 200,000 units. Investors should note this expansion is undertaken by the joint venture, distinct from the listed Wipro Limited entity.

Wipro Kawasaki Precision Machinery, the joint venture between Wipro Enterprises and Japan’s Kawasaki Heavy Industries, is expanding its manufacturing footprint in India. The company has committed ₹1,000 crore to establish a large-scale hydraulic pump production facility in the Harohalli industrial area of Karnataka. This investment is aimed at scaling up local manufacturing capabilities to meet rising industrial demand.

The new plant is designed to significantly increase the company’s output. While the firm’s current leased facility in Kumbalgodu produces approximately 80,000 hydraulic pumps annually, the new greenfield site is projected to lift this capacity to over 200,000 units each year. The company is targeting to have the facility operational within the next twelve months, with support from the state government for land allotment.

Beyond production capacity, the project is expected to function as a significant employment generator for the region, with plans to create 1,200 direct jobs. This transition from leased space to a dedicated, large-scale plant is a strategic move for the joint venture to streamline its supply chain and strengthen its position in the domestic hydraulic equipment market.

For investors, it is important to distinguish this joint venture from Wipro Limited, the publicly traded technology and IT company. Although Wipro Enterprises is part of the broader Wipro group, this manufacturing activity operates independently of the listed Wipro Limited. Investors following the listed entity should be aware that Wipro Limited is currently undergoing significant changes, including its scheduled exit from the Nifty 50 index effective September 30, 2026.

Like any major industrial project, this expansion faces inherent execution risks. Potential challenges include delays in infrastructure development or land acquisition, which could affect the targeted 12-month commissioning timeline. Additionally, the hydraulic equipment sector is cyclical and heavily dependent on broader trends in infrastructure, construction, and manufacturing. If demand in these sectors cools, the increased capacity could lead to pricing pressure or lower-than-expected utilization rates. The key monitorable for the business will be the progress of the construction phase over the coming year and the company's ability to maintain demand for its products once the new capacity comes online.
