West Coast Paper Mills Hits Record High of ₹909.70

Shares of West Coast Paper Mills touched an all-time high of ₹909.70 on October 14, 2026, supported by strong trading volumes. The stock has gained 133% over the past seven months as the company reported a sharp rise in profit despite a dip in revenue. Investors are focusing on its strategic shift toward optical fiber infrastructure to reduce reliance on the cyclical paper business.

West Coast Paper Mills reached a fresh record high of ₹909.70 on Wednesday, capping a significant rally that has seen the stock rise 133% over the past seven months. Trading activity was robust, with 1.4 million shares changing hands during the session, indicating strong interest from market participants.

The company’s recent performance shows a notable contrast in its financial results. In the June 2026 quarter, profit after tax jumped by 163% quarter-on-quarter to ₹141.84 crore, while EBITDA improved by 55%. This profitability growth occurred even as total revenue contracted by 16%. Management has attributed this disconnect to improved operational efficiencies and a move toward higher-value products, which helped protect margins despite lower sales volume.

Strategic diversification is a key driver of the company’s recent narrative. West Coast Paper Mills is actively expanding its presence beyond the traditional paper industry through its subsidiary, West Coast Optilinks. By increasing its manufacturing capacity for optical fiber cables at its new Hyderabad unit, the company is positioning itself to benefit from national projects like the BharatNet initiative and the ongoing expansion of 5G infrastructure. This move is intended to provide a buffer against the traditional volatility of the paper sector.

However, the company faces inherent sector risks. The paper industry is highly cyclical, meaning profitability can fluctuate significantly based on global demand and local pricing trends. A major challenge for the sector remains the influx of cheaper paper imports, which can put pressure on domestic price realization and margins. Additionally, the company is exposed to fluctuations in the costs of raw materials, such as wood pulp and essential chemicals. If these input costs rise unexpectedly or if import pressure intensifies, the company's profit margins could come under pressure, regardless of its expansion efforts.

Market sentiment has also been influenced by the presence of prominent investors. Shareholding disclosures as of September 30, 2026, confirmed that investor Mukul Mahavir Agrawal held a 1.44% stake in the company, amounting to 950,000 shares. This backing has added to the stock's visibility among momentum-focused investors.

Looking ahead, the next phase of growth will depend on how effectively the company manages the execution of its fiber optics project and maintains its cost discipline in the paper division. Investors may continue to track quarterly demand trends for paper products, the success of the new optical fiber capacity in generating revenue, and any potential shifts in raw material or import-related policies that could affect profitability.
