Welspun Corp Plans Rs 2,280 Crore Expansion in US and Jordan

Welspun Corp has announced a Rs 2,280 crore investment to boost pipe manufacturing capacity in the US and Jordan. This follows a 3% rise in quarterly net profit to Rs 499 crore. Investors are noting the company’s push to capture international energy and water infrastructure demand, though long-term execution timelines will be a key factor to track.

Welspun Corp is stepping up its global presence with a major capital spending plan totalling Rs 2,280 crore. The pipe manufacturer aims to strengthen its international capacity in the United States and Jordan, betting on rising demand for energy and water infrastructure.

The largest portion of this investment is directed towards a joint venture in Jordan, worth Rs 1,188 crore. This facility will produce pipes and advanced coatings, primarily to serve the National Water Carrier Project and the region's energy sector.

Simultaneously, the company is allocating Rs 1,093 crore to expand its existing facility in Little Rock, Arkansas. This project will add 2.25 lakh tonnes per annum of capacity to the plant, with the target to complete the expansion by March 2028. The company stated it plans to fund these projects using internal cash, which helps manage the impact on debt levels.

Domestically, Welspun is forming a joint venture to set up a new unit, Welspun Special Coating Pvt Ltd. It will hold a 49% stake in this Rs 110 crore venture with Perma-Pipe Qatar, focusing on specialized coating services for the Indian market.

The expansion news comes alongside the company’s financial results for the quarter ending in September. Welspun Corp reported a net profit of Rs 499 crore, a 3% increase compared to the same period last year. Revenue grew by 6% to Rs 4,644 crore. Management noted that a solid order book, particularly from the US oil and gas market, gives them the confidence to proceed with these long-term projects.

For investors, the key area to watch is the execution timeline. While the US expansion is scheduled for completion in 2028, large infrastructure projects carry inherent risks, including potential cost overruns or delays. Furthermore, the company’s future growth depends heavily on sustained demand in the energy and water sectors, which can be cyclical. Investors may want to keep an eye on project progress updates and management commentary regarding order book health in upcoming quarters.
