Unilever Eyes Hyderabad for Global Operations Hub
Overview

FMCG giant Unilever is exploring Hyderabad as a location for its Global Capability Centre (GCC). Company officials discussed the potential move with Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Hyderabad's status as a prime GCC hub, coupled with Telangana's policy continuity and efficient approval processes, makes it an attractive destination. The state also urged Unilever to consider FMCG manufacturing within its industrial parks.

Diplomatic Pitch in Davos

Unilever, the global fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) behemoth, is reportedly considering Hyderabad as a potential site for its next Global Capability Centre (GCC). Top company executives engaged in discussions regarding this prospect with Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. The meeting took place during the World Economic Forum (WEF) at Davos, where the Chief Minister was leading the 'Telangana Rising' delegation.

Hyderabad's GCC Advantage

During the deliberations, Willem Uijen, Unilever's chief supply chain & operations officer, indicated a willingness to explore setting up the GCC in Hyderabad. Telangana's IT and Industries Minister, D Sridhar Babu, highlighted the city's rapid transformation into a global GCC hub, citing existing centers for major firms like McDonald's, Heineken, and Costco. He emphasized Telangana's strengths in policy continuity, rapid approvals, and streamlined licensing processes, making it an appealing environment for multinational corporations.

Beyond GCC: Manufacturing & Sustainability

The Telangana delegation, which also included Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, extended an invitation to Unilever to consider establishing FMCG manufacturing units within the state's industrial parks. Minister Sridhar Babu lauded Unilever as a "prized partner of Telangana." Furthermore, the delegation briefed Unilever leadership on Telangana's initiatives in renewable energy, water stewardship, and the circular economy, underscoring their alignment with Unilever's global climate, water-positive, and plastic-reduction commitments.
