UltraTech Cement reported a 16.8% jump in quarterly profit to ₹2,599 crore, supported by a 12.2% increase in sales volumes. The company's revenue grew 15.9% as demand from housing and infrastructure projects remained steady. However, investors may note a slight dip in operating margins despite the strong volume performance.
UltraTech Cement, the flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, reported strong financial results for the quarter ending June 30, 2026. The company’s consolidated net profit rose 16.8% to ₹2,599 crore, compared to ₹2,226 crore in the same period last year. This performance was supported by a 15.9% increase in revenue from operations, which reached ₹24,648 crore.
Volume Growth and Operating Performance
The primary driver of this growth was a significant rise in sales. Consolidated grey cement sales volumes grew by 12.2% year-on-year, reaching 41.31 million tonnes. This indicates sustained demand from India's ongoing infrastructure and housing sectors. The company reported that operating EBITDA per tonne improved to ₹1,214, marking a ₹16 increase from the previous year. While total operating profit in absolute terms rose by 13.7% to ₹5,015 crore, the EBITDA margin saw a slight contraction, moving to 20.35% from 20.73% a year earlier. This suggests that while volumes are growing, the company is managing the balance between revenue gains and rising operational costs.
Capacity Expansion and Market Share
UltraTech continues to scale its operations significantly. The company recently commissioned 8.7 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of new capacity, bringing its total consolidated capacity to 205.5 MTPA. This expansion is part of a strategy to maintain its leadership in the Indian market, where it held a 35% share of industry grey cement volumes as of the last fiscal year. Alongside production capacity, the company expanded its retail presence, growing its 'UltraTech Building Solutions' network by 21% to 5,802 outlets.
Sustainability and Operational Efficiency
Beyond production metrics, the company is focusing on energy and logistics efficiency. Renewable power capacity increased by 35% to 1.46 GW, with green power now accounting for 45.6% of the company's total energy consumption. Additionally, the company improved its supply chain efficiency by reducing its average lead distance to 360 km. These initiatives are important for long-term cost management in the energy-intensive cement sector.
What Investors May Monitor
While the current volume growth is strong, the key monitorable for shareholders will be the trend in operating margins. Despite the revenue surge, the slight margin dip highlights the competitive nature of the cement industry and the potential impact of raw material and logistics costs on profitability. Investors may track how management maintains pricing power and cost efficiency as they continue to integrate the newly commissioned capacity into their existing operations.
