Tube Investments Q2 Profit Jumps 39% To ₹421 Crore

Tube Investments of India reported a 39.2% increase in consolidated net profit to ₹420.58 crore for the second quarter of fiscal 2027. This growth was largely driven by strong results from its subsidiaries, notably CG Power and Industrial Solutions. Alongside the financial results, the company announced an ₹83 crore expansion investment for its cold-rolled steel facility in Avadi.

Tube Investments of India, part of the Murugappa Group, posted a strong consolidated financial performance for the second quarter of the 2027 fiscal year. The company recorded a consolidated net profit of ₹420.58 crore, marking a 39.2% increase compared to the same period last year. Consolidated revenue from operations also saw a significant rise, climbing 32.7% to reach ₹7,330.31 crore.

A clear divide exists between the company's standalone operations and its consolidated performance. While the consolidated numbers were bolstered by strong performances from subsidiaries, the standalone operations remained steady. Standalone net profit for the quarter stood at ₹188.16 crore, with revenue at ₹2,710.49 crore. The consolidated strength was heavily influenced by CG Power and Industrial Solutions, a subsidiary where the company holds a majority stake. CG Power delivered a strong quarter with revenue reaching ₹3,802 crore and profit before tax hitting ₹559 crore, serving as a primary driver for the group's overall earnings growth.

Operational performance across the core business divisions remained positive. The engineering segment, a key part of the company’s business, reported revenue of ₹1,828 crore, reflecting stable industrial demand. The Metal Formed Products division also saw a revenue contribution of ₹473 crore, while the mobility division recorded a 27% growth, reaching ₹247 crore. Meanwhile, other group entities such as Shanthi Gears saw a slight revenue contraction to ₹128 crore during the period.

Looking toward future capacity, the company board has approved an expansion investment of ₹83 crore. This funding will be used to enhance the manufacturing capacity of the Cold Rolled Steel Strips unit at the company's Avadi facility. The company plans to fund this expansion through internal accruals, with project completion expected by the 2028 fiscal year. This move is designed to address the increasing demand for high-quality steel strips in the domestic market.

For investors, the primary monitorables include the successful execution of the Avadi facility expansion and the ability to maintain strong performance in consolidated subsidiaries. As the company expands its steel capacity, the financial outcome will depend on broader industrial demand and the company’s ability to manage project timelines without cost overruns. Additionally, investors often monitor the cyclical nature of the engineering and industrial sectors, as fluctuations in raw material prices or industrial demand can impact profit margins across the group.
