Union Steel Minister HD Kumaraswamy announced a significant capacity expansion plan for Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL)'s Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). The plant's capacity is set to double from the current 4.4 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 9.8 MTPA. This development follows the inauguration of a modern 1 MTPA slab caster and aims to boost supplies for critical sectors like defence, oil and gas, and automobiles, supporting India's target of achieving 300 MTPA steel capacity.
