South Korean footwear giant Hwaseung Footwear is set to establish a significant manufacturing presence in India with a proposed investment of ₹898 crore. The company, known as one of the world's largest Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) suppliers for global brands like Adidas, plans to set up a state-of-the-art non-leather footwear manufacturing facility in Kuppam, Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh.
This ambitious greenfield project has received approval from the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB). It will be developed across a sprawling 100-acre industrial campus located at Pogurupalle, Gudupalle Mandal. This development is poised to make Kuppam a burgeoning hub for global footwear production.
The entry of Hwaseung Footwear into Andhra Pradesh is expected to be transformative for the region. The new unit is projected to generate a substantial number of direct employment opportunities, estimated at nearly 17,645 jobs. This influx of employment is anticipated to significantly boost economic activity and improve livelihoods in Kuppam and its surrounding areas.
The approved proposal outlines a phased implementation of the project. Phase I involves an investment of ₹308.92 crore, followed by Phase II with an investment of ₹298.44 crore, and Phase III with an investment of ₹291.53 crore. This structured approach indicates a strategic and scalable development plan.
Impact
This investment is highly significant for India's manufacturing sector, particularly in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) and boosting employment. It signals confidence in India's manufacturing capabilities and labor force, potentially attracting more such large-scale projects. The development of Kuppam as a footwear hub could lead to the growth of ancillary industries and improve infrastructure in the region. The direct job creation will have a substantial positive effect on local economies.
