India-based Offgrid Energy Labs has launched a 10 MWh pilot manufacturing plant in Hook, UK, to produce its proprietary ZincGel batteries. This move marks the company’s first international production site, focusing on long-duration energy storage. ZincGel Technology and Market Positioning

The expansion into the UK coincides with the upcoming India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), scheduled to take effect on July 15, 2026. To support its production processes, Offgrid has secured bromine supply agreements with Archean Chemical Industries. The venture is also backed by funding from Ankur Capital, which has supported the company’s efforts to scale its deep-tech innovation globally. While the 10 MWh facility serves as a demonstration for commercial-scale manufacturing, the company faces the challenge of proving that zinc-based storage can compete effectively on cost and efficiency with more mature energy storage technologies already present in the global market. The transition to large-scale deployment will require consistent demand and successful integration into international renewable energy projects.
