Noida International Airport at Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, is on the verge of commencing operations, according to Tata Projects, the infrastructure and construction firm responsible for its development. CEO and Managing Director Vinayak Pai confirmed that while construction is substantially complete, the project is now focused on securing final regulatory clearances, including safety and security approvals and the crucial aerodrome license from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Pai indicated that the airport is ready for inauguration and will begin operations "in a short period of time."
Beyond the airport, Tata Projects is actively pursuing new projects to sustain its order book between ₹40,000 crore and ₹43,000 crore. The company is expanding into high-growth sectors such as fourth-generation manufacturing, electronic semiconductor manufacturing, solar panel production, and data centres, leveraging its expertise in "fast track project delivery."
Addressing past financial performance, Pai acknowledged a net loss of ₹751 crore in the last financial year, attributing it to the cumulative impact of projects initiated before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. He assured stakeholders that these older projects are nearing completion and that the company's portfolio of new projects is "steadily profitable." Consequently, financial results are expected to show significant improvement in profitability starting next year, reflecting the success of the new, profitable ventures.
Impact: This news is highly significant for the Indian infrastructure sector, signalling progress in a major greenfield airport project and providing an optimistic outlook from a prominent EPC player. It boosts confidence in the execution capabilities of companies involved in large-scale projects and highlights diversification into new technology-driven manufacturing areas. Rating: 8/10
