Nexon Geochem Plans ₹1,250-Crore Magnet Plant In Andhra Pradesh

Nexon Geochem Private Limited has signed an agreement to set up a ₹1,250-crore rare-earth magnet manufacturing facility in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The project aims to boost local supply of magnets used in EVs, renewable energy, and defense. Please note that Nexon Geochem is a private, unlisted company and does not have shares traded on any stock exchange.

Nexon Geochem Private Limited has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board to establish a manufacturing facility in Thondangi, Kakinada district. The project involves a total capital investment of ₹1,250 crore, which is planned to be deployed in two phases. The first phase will see an investment of ₹750 crore, followed by a second phase of ₹500 crore.

Scaling Domestic Production

The facility is designed to produce sintered neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) permanent magnets, with a target annual production capacity of 600 tonnes upon completion. These specialized magnets are critical components for high-performance electric vehicle motors, wind turbine generators, and sophisticated defense technology. Currently, the production of such high-grade magnets requires specialized technology, and manufacturers often rely on global imports. By establishing this facility, the company aims to localize production and reduce dependency on international supply chains.

Important Clarification for Investors

Investors and market participants should note that Nexon Geochem Private Limited is an unlisted, private entity. It is not traded on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) or the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The announcement of this project does not impact the stock price of any listed company, and the entity should not be confused with publicly traded firms in the specialty chemicals or industrial goods sectors.

Operational and Industry Context

Rare-earth magnet production is a complex process that requires both technical expertise and consistent access to raw materials. The project reflects a broader trend in India toward building self-reliance in critical mineral processing and advanced component manufacturing. The company has previously focused on developing processing capabilities through partnerships, which highlights the technical nature of the business.

For any large-scale greenfield industrial project of this size, there are inherent execution risks. The success of this facility will depend on the company's ability to secure financing for the ₹1,250-crore capital commitment, manage construction timelines, and successfully transition from project planning to commercial-scale production. Additionally, the rare-earth sector is sensitive to global pricing volatility and supply chain pressures, which can impact profitability for manufacturers in this space. Investors and industry observers will track the project's construction progress, the commissioning of the production lines, and the company's success in securing supply contracts for high-demand sectors like EVs and defense.
