Larsen & Toubro has secured new urban construction contracts valued between ₹1,000 crore and ₹2,500 crore for projects in Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. This expansion strengthens the company's order book, though investors are keeping an eye on profit margins after recent quarterly figures showed some compression.
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has expanded its urban infrastructure portfolio by securing a series of new contracts valued between ₹1,000 crore and ₹2,500 crore. The construction giant’s Residential, Commercial Buildings & Factories business unit will execute these projects across Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, highlighting a continued demand for large-scale real estate developments in India’s major metropolitan hubs.
The projects involve significant technical and structural work. In Mumbai, the company will construct nine residential towers, with each standing 50 floors high. In Bengaluru, the scope includes another nine residential towers of 25 floors each. The Hyderabad project adds a commercial dimension, featuring a 22-floor premium office tower. Beyond these new developments, L&T has also secured additional work for existing sites, which typically signals steady relationships with long-term clients.
From a financial perspective, this contract win adds to a robust project pipeline. For the quarter ended September 30, 2026, the company reported record order inflows of ₹1.48 trillion, a 28% increase compared to the previous year. However, investors are carefully tracking the company's profitability. In the same quarter, L&T recorded a consolidated revenue of ₹787 billion, but its EBITDA margin—a key measure of operating profit—slipped to 8.7% from 10.0% in the year-ago period. This compression has been attributed to a mix of project types and ongoing cost pressures.
While the order book remains strong, the execution of these complex high-rise projects carries inherent operational risks. Timely completion, cost management in volatile commodity markets, and the ability to maintain margins are critical factors for the company. As L&T scales its operations, including newer strategic ventures in high-tech sectors, the market will monitor whether these new urban contracts can contribute to better margin stability in coming quarters. Investors may track the progress of these construction milestones and any updates on profit margin recovery in upcoming financial results.
