Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Ltd. announced Thursday it has been awarded a supply order by the Indian Army's Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME). The contract pertains to the overhaul, upgrade, and obsolescence management of the indigenous Pinaka Multi-Rocket Launcher Systems. This partnership seeks to improve the long-term operational availability and modernize Pinaka regiments currently in service.
Program Focus
The initiative will concentrate on managing outdated components and upgrading critical sub-systems. L&T will provide sustained technical support to Army Base Workshops, reinforcing the public-private partnership model in defense sustainment. This is a shift towards a structured, lifecycle-based sustenance and upgrade framework for frontline artillery systems.
Initial Phase and OEM Role
In the first phase, L&T will conduct a pilot overhaul of a Pinaka Launcher and Battery Commander Post in collaboration with 510 ABW EME. As the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), L&T will supply critical spares and support sub-system modernization. Following the pilot, remaining systems will be overhauled by 510 ABW EME, with L&T providing ongoing technical support and quality oversight.
Strategic Significance
This unique partnership between a private OEM and the Indian Army for sustaining frontline artillery systems marks a crucial step for product lifecycle support of 'Made in India' in-service artillery. Shares of L&T slipped from intraday highs, trading below the flat line at ₹4,512.9 following the announcement.
