Knowledge Marine Hits New High at ₹2,735; Stake Data Analyzed

Knowledge Marine & Engineering Works shares reached an all-time high of ₹2,735.50, reflecting a 216% gain over the past year. Recent price action follows a series of changes in promoter and institutional holdings, alongside a new ₹66 crore order for hybrid electric ferries from the Inland Waterways Authority of India.

Knowledge Marine & Engineering Works (KMEW) shares touched a fresh record high of ₹2,735.50 on Wednesday. This recent climb adds to a strong performance, with the stock price rising 86% over the last four months and more than tripling in value over the past year. This move stands out given the broader market trend, where the BSE Sensex has recorded a 4.6% decline during the same 12-month period.

The company, which specializes in dredging and marine engineering, has seen notable shifts in its shareholder base. As of the quarter ending June 2026, ace investor Ashish Kacholia holds a 2.89% stake, representing 705,264 equity shares. During the same period, institutional interest remained active, highlighted by a bulk deal on June 19, 2026, where SBI Funds Management acquired 400,036 shares at ₹1,963.17 each.

Simultaneously, the promoter group, consisting of Kanak Sujay Kewalramani and Dinesh Mohanlal Kewalramani, reduced their combined holding from 53.63% in the March 2026 quarter to 51.56%. While promoter stakes are often closely tracked for signals of management confidence, the company has also increased its focus on new technology segments to diversify its revenue stream.

Order Execution and Growth Strategy

A key element of the company’s current business plan is its expansion into the manufacturing of specialized marine vessels. On June 20, 2026, KMEW announced an order from the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) for 10 hybrid electric passenger ferries, valued at ₹66.11 crore. This contract is significant not only for its value but also for the 60-month maintenance commitment attached to it, which suggests a steady stream of service-related income over the coming years.

The dredging and marine infrastructure sector in India is currently supported by government initiatives such as the Sagarmala Programme, which aims to improve port logistics and increase the usage of national waterways. This macro environment provides the backdrop for KMEW’s expansion. However, for investors, the primary monitorable will be the company’s ability to execute on these specialized projects while maintaining profit margins amid potential cost fluctuations in marine engineering materials. As the company moves toward higher-value electric vessel production, the market will likely track how these projects impact cash flow and the overall debt position compared to its legacy dredging business.
