KEC Drops 7% on Weak Results; Jupiter Wagons Wins ₹324 Cr Orders

KEC International shares fell 7% after profit plummeted 81.5% due to supply chain and execution hurdles. In contrast, Jupiter Wagons gained 2% on securing ₹324 crore in new private-sector orders. Meanwhile, market interest surged in Trident and Marico following strong quarterly earnings and expansion plans.

Tuesday's market session highlighted a clear gap between company performances, with investors reacting sharply to quarterly results and new order announcements. While infrastructure firm KEC International saw its stock decline, Jupiter Wagons, Trident, and Marico ended the day with positive momentum, driven by distinct business updates.

KEC International shares dropped by 7% as investors reacted to a difficult second quarter. The company reported a sharp 81.5% fall in net profit to ₹29.7 crore, while revenue declined by 10.2% to ₹5,467.7 crore. The management highlighted significant hurdles, particularly supply chain disruptions affecting projects in the Middle East and difficulties in land acquisition. Beyond these operational challenges, investors are monitoring a pending government agency investigation flagged by the company’s auditors. This adds a layer of uncertainty regarding project timelines and future governance.

In contrast, Jupiter Wagons saw its stock rise 2% following the announcement of two major contracts for its ACT2 wagons. The company secured a total of ₹324 crore in business, with a ₹215 crore order from GATX India and a ₹109 crore order from Chetak International. These wins are significant for investors because they represent private-sector demand, which helps diversify the company’s order book away from its heavy reliance on government tenders. The key for shareholders now will be the company’s ability to execute these orders efficiently within the expected timeframe.

Trident and Marico emerged as top performers, capturing investor interest through growth and efficiency. Trident shares surged 11% after the company reported a 93% jump in net profit to ₹175.6 crore. Management also announced a major ₹4,650 crore capacity expansion and modernization project, signaling confidence in long-term demand despite a dip in quarterly revenue. Marico also saw its stock rise 6% following a 31% increase in net profit to ₹550 crore. The company’s performance was boosted by lower raw material prices for copra, which improved profit margins and allowed management to raise its growth forecast for the year.

Looking ahead, investors will be watching how KEC International addresses its supply chain and execution bottlenecks. For Jupiter Wagons and Trident, the focus remains on the successful commissioning of their respective orders and expansion plans. Meanwhile, for consumer-facing companies like Marico, maintaining profit margins will depend on whether commodity prices remain stable in the coming quarters.
