JK Cement Profit Rises 6% to ₹169 Crore; New Paint Plant Announced

JK Cement posted a 6.3% increase in net profit to ₹169.3 crore for the September quarter, supported by strong cement sales volumes. The firm also approved a ₹130 crore expansion for a new paint plant in Telangana. Investors may watch how the company balances this capital spending with rising input costs, which saw total expenses climb by over 24% during the same period.

JK Cement reported a net profit of ₹169.3 crore for the September quarter of the 2026-27 fiscal year, representing a 6.3% increase compared to the ₹159.25 crore reported in the same period last year. Revenue from operations saw strong growth, rising 23.65% to reach ₹3,733.42 crore, up from ₹3,019.20 crore in the previous year.

The company’s top-line performance was driven by healthy demand across its core segments. Grey cement sales volume grew by 21%, reaching 5.37 million tonnes, while white cement volumes increased by 13% to 0.49 million tonnes. This growth indicates robust demand for construction materials despite broader economic factors.

While revenue grew significantly, the company is dealing with rising operational expenses. Total costs for the quarter rose by 24.34% to ₹3,515.71 crore. This trend reflects inflationary pressure on input costs, which remains a key challenge for manufacturers in the cement and industrial goods sector. Investors often monitor these cost trends closely, as they can directly influence profit margins.

To drive long-term growth, the company is expanding its diversification efforts through its subsidiary, JK Maxx Paints. The board has approved the construction of a new water-based paint manufacturing unit in Raghunadhapalem, Telangana. The project involves a capital expenditure of ₹130 crore, which will be funded from an existing ₹600 crore budgetary allocation specifically for the paint business.

The new facility is planned to have an annual capacity of 75,000 kilolitres. Currently, the company’s existing paint manufacturing unit in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, is operating at 60% capacity utilization. The management expects to reach full capacity at the Rajasthan plant by the 2028 fiscal year. The new Telangana plant is intended to support the company’s efforts to maintain and grow its market share as demand for its paint products scales up.

Looking ahead, the next important update for shareholders will be the execution of this expansion project. Investors will likely watch whether the company can maintain its profit margins while funding this capital spending, particularly if raw material costs remain high. The company's ability to balance its expansion in the competitive decorative paints market with the performance of its core cement business will be essential to track in future quarterly results.
