India's aggressive expansion of its power transmission network is directly fueling a remarkable rally in the shares of electrical equipment manufacturers. Companies focused on transformers and grid infrastructure have witnessed gains of up to 94% in 2026 alone. This surge is underpinned by the nation's commitment to achieving 500 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2030, a target that may even be revised upwards. Meeting these generation goals necessitates a parallel, substantial build-out of transmission and distribution infrastructure.
Investment Outlook
Projections indicate an investment of nearly Rs 9 lakh crore in transmission infrastructure by 2032. This substantial capital infusion is particularly beneficial for transformer manufacturers. Each gigawatt of new power generation capacity requires a significant, eight-to-elevenfold increase in transformer capacity across various voltage levels. Industry reports highlight Atlanta Electricals and Quality Power as key beneficiaries, with their stock prices soaring.
Atlanta Electricals' Strategic Shift
Atlanta Electricals, a manufacturer of power, auto-transformers, and inverter-duty transformers, reported a robust 49% rise in FY26 revenue to Rs 1,852 crore. Its EBITDA grew by 78% to Rs 344 crore, accompanied by an improved margin of 18.6%. The company has strategically pivoted towards higher-margin extra high-voltage (EHV) transformers, specifically in the 400-kV and 765-kV categories. This move from the lower-margin 220-kV segment, which offers approximately 200 basis points higher margins, is seen as a key driver of its 94% share-price appreciation. The high entry barriers in the EHV segment, including capital requirements and regulatory approvals, further solidify its position. Atlanta secured a crucial 400-kV order in April 2026 and anticipates meaningful revenue from this segment starting in FY27. The company's order book stands at Rs 2,493 crore, providing visibility for the next 12 to 18 months.
Quality Power Expands and Diversifies
Quality Power, specializing in high-voltage grid connectivity equipment, also posted impressive financial results. FY26 revenue surged 157% to Rs 1,007 crore, with EBITDA increasing 98% to Rs 236 crore. Net profit climbed 85% to Rs 186 crore. The company is actively expanding its capacity and diversifying its product portfolio. Key initiatives include building a global coil manufacturing facility and developing 765-kV products and gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) infrastructure. Quality Power is also venturing into grid-scale energy storage systems and has plans for power conversion system (PCS) inverter launches. Furthermore, the company is targeting demand from global data centers, supplying backup power equipment to clients in the US, Europe, and the Middle East.
Valuation Concerns
Despite the strong performance, both Atlanta Electricals and Quality Power are trading at high price-to-earnings multiples. Sustaining these valuations will depend on their ability to execute effectively, ramp up production capacity, and convert their order books into revenue amidst potential commodity price fluctuations for copper and aluminum.
