'Structural Disruption' Hits Plastics Sector
The Indian Plastics Federation (IPF) has characterized the current market turmoil as a 'structural disruption,' emphasizing it's more than just temporary volatility. This situation is placing significant pressure on costs, supply chains, and working capital, particularly for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) within the sector.
Federation Calls for Essential Commodity Status
IPF President Amit Kumar Agarwal highlighted the critical role of plastics in essential industries such as food, healthcare, packaging, and infrastructure. He stated that declaring plastics an essential commodity is vital for ensuring an uninterrupted supply and effectively mitigating the ongoing crisis.
Industry Seeks Policy Support and Stability
While welcoming recent government actions to reduce duties on major polymer products, the IPF is seeking an extension of these duty exemptions on polymer imports for a further six months. The federation also urged domestic petrochemical producers to maintain stable supplies. IPF Honorary Secretary Saurabh Garodia stressed the importance of industry agility and adaptive supply chain strategies in navigating these challenges.
