Overview

The Indian government has simplified steel import procedures by reducing compliance requirements. A new online system, SARAL Steel Import Monitoring System (SARAL SIMS), has been launched to ease imports, especially for small enterprises. Procedures for importing steel for export purposes under advance authorisation will be fast-tracked. The need for a no-objection certificate (NOC) has been removed for steel grades not covered by quality control orders (QCOs), and exemptions for certain steel products have been extended.
