HeidelbergCement Profit Drops 37% as Costs Weigh on Margins

HeidelbergCement India reported a 36.7% decline in quarterly profit to ₹30.55 crore, despite a 5.1% rise in revenue. Increased raw material and fuel costs squeezed margins, driving a 24.5% fall in operating profit. Investors may track how pricing and energy efficiency measures impact future profitability.

HeidelbergCement India Ltd reported a challenging June quarter as rising operational expenses outweighed modest gains in sales. For the quarter ending June 30, 2026, the company recorded a profit after tax of ₹30.55 crore, marking a 36.7% decline compared to the same period last year. This figure also represents a significant drop from the ₹45.21 crore reported in the preceding quarter.

Revenue Growth vs. Margin Erosion

While the top line showed resilience, the bottom line felt the impact of rising costs. Revenue from operations grew by 5.1% year-on-year to ₹628.11 crore, supported by a 3.6% increase in sales volumes to 1,299 kilotonnes and a slight improvement of about 1.5% in realization prices. Despite this growth, total operating costs per tonne rose by 6.4%, driven by higher prices for raw materials and fuel. The combination of increased input costs and limited ability to pass them on to customers led to a substantial contraction in profitability.

EBITDA and Operational Efficiency

The company's core operating profit, or EBITDA, fell by 24.5% to ₹66.8 crore. The EBITDA margin, which measures how much profit a company makes from its core business operations relative to its revenue, narrowed to 10.6% from 14.8% in the previous year. On a per-tonne basis, the EBITDA decline was even steeper at 27.1%, reflecting the significant pressure on unit profitability.

To combat these challenges, the company is focusing on energy efficiency. Its latest filings indicate that alternate fuels now account for 12% of its energy mix, and more than half of its total power consumption comes from non-grid, captive, or renewable sources. These efforts are part of a long-term strategy to reduce energy dependence and lower costs.

Future Expansion and Financial Position

HeidelbergCement India continues to invest in its long-term growth. The company has secured formal consent to set up a new cement blending and grinding unit in the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. This expansion is part of its plan to grow its footprint in central India. From a liquidity perspective, the company remains in a stable position with cash and bank balances of ₹472.6 crore as of June 30, 2026. The company's stock closed at ₹156.75 on the BSE following the results.

Investors will likely monitor whether the company can maintain volume growth as it builds the new capacity in Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, the ability of the company to stabilize its profit margins amid fluctuating global fuel and raw material prices will remain a critical area of focus in the coming quarters.
