Ellenbarrie Industrial Gases Wins ₹481 Cr BHEL Contract

Ellenbarrie Industrial Gases has secured a ₹481 crore contract from BHEL to build a cryogenic Air Separation Unit. The turnkey project, which is part of a coal-to-ammonium nitrate facility, will be executed over eight quarters ending in fiscal year 2029.

Ellenbarrie Industrial Gases has secured a major contract worth ₹481 crore from Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL). The company will be responsible for building a large-scale, 1,200 tons-per-day cryogenic Air Separation Unit. This equipment is a critical component for BHEL’s Coal to Ammonium Nitrate project, which focuses on converting coal into chemical products.

The project follows a turnkey build-and-transfer model. This means Ellenbarrie Industrial Gases will manage the entire lifecycle of the facility, including design, engineering, equipment supply, construction, and final testing. Once the unit is commissioned and meets operational standards, it will be handed over to BHEL. Importantly, the company will not be responsible for long-term ownership or operating the facility after the handover is complete.

The execution is planned over a period of eight quarters, with the project slated for completion in the 2029 fiscal year. For investors, this project signifies a shift toward large-order execution revenue, which is different from the regular sale of industrial gases. A key factor to consider in such construction-heavy contracts is the risk of project delays or cost increases. Factors like rising material prices or supply chain issues could impact profit margins if not managed effectively. Because the revenue is tied to project milestones, delays could also affect the company’s cash flow.

Ellenbarrie Industrial Gases currently has a market capitalization of approximately ₹5,061 crore. The stock recently closed at ₹359.10, following a 2.62 percent decline in the previous trading session. Over the past year, the shares have moved within a range of ₹175.05 to ₹500.85. The market is now evaluating whether this order will provide enough consistent growth to offset recent share price volatility.

Moving forward, investors should monitor the company’s ability to execute this project on time. The most important updates to track will be the progress of construction milestones, how the company manages working capital while the project is underway, and any management commentary regarding margin stability. Since this is a large, multi-year order, staying updated on quarterly financial reports will be essential to see how the project contributes to the company's overall earnings.
