An investor summit held by the Chhattisgarh government in Gujarat resulted in significant investment pledges from six Gujarat-based companies, totaling ₹33,320 crore and promising over 15,000 new jobs. This initiative seeks to foster economic growth in Chhattisgarh, a region that has long contended with naxalism.
Torrent Power emerged as the largest investor, pledging ₹22,900 crore to establish a 1600 MW thermal power plant and generate 5,000 jobs. Torrent Pharmaceuticals will invest ₹200 crore for a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. The second-highest commitment came from Onix-three Enersol Pvt Ltd with ₹9,000 crore for a plant focused on electrolysers, green hydrogen, green ammonia, and green steel, creating 4,000 jobs. Shalby Hospitals plans to invest ₹300 crore for a multispeciality hospital. Mala Group will invest ₹700 crore for a 2GW solar cell facility, creating 550 jobs. Lastly, Sapphire Semicon committed ₹120 crore for a semiconductor and digitalisation facility expected to employ 4,000 people, while Lyceon Life Sciences pledged ₹100 crore.
Impact: This wave of investment is expected to significantly boost Chhattisgarh's economy, create substantial employment opportunities, and potentially improve infrastructure and social services in a developing region.
