Blue Star reported a 15.15% drop in Q1 FY27 net profit to ₹102.51 crore as rising commodity costs and a delayed summer season hurt margins. While revenue grew by 13.3% to ₹3,377.92 crore, the company faced intense competition in its room air conditioner segment. However, the order book remains robust at ₹7,764 crore, driven by strong demand for data center projects. The stock has seen volatility following the announcement.
Blue Star Ltd reported a mixed financial performance for the first quarter of the 2027 fiscal year. While the company achieved a 13.3% year-on-year growth in consolidated revenue, reaching ₹3,377.92 crore, its profitability faced significant challenges. Net profit for the quarter declined by 15.15% to ₹102.51 crore compared to the same period last year. The decline in profit was largely driven by tighter profit margins, which narrowed by 153 basis points to 5.18% at the EBITDA level.
Margin Pressure in Consumer Business
The primary pressure on the company’s bottom line came from its Unitary Cooling Products segment, which includes its room air conditioner business. Profitability in this division was impacted by a combination of factors, including elevated commodity costs—specifically copper—and the depreciation of the rupee, which increases the cost of imported components. Additionally, a delayed summer season resulted in excess inventory, forcing the company to balance price increases with the need to maintain market share. Management chose to absorb a portion of the cost inflation rather than passing it fully to consumers, which temporarily lowered operating margins for this segment to 2.9%.
Data Center Projects Drive Order Book Growth
Despite the headwinds in the consumer durable segment, the Electro-Mechanical Projects and Commercial Air Conditioning business provided a bright spot. This segment benefited from a 24% surge in order inflows, primarily fueled by demand for data center projects. By the end of the quarter, the company’s total order book stood at a healthy ₹7,764.38 crore. These projects typically have shorter execution cycles compared to large-scale infrastructure work, which the company expects will help improve cash flow and segment margins as they are completed.
Market Reaction and Outlook
The company’s stock price has shown volatility in response to these results, trading around the ₹1,514 level as of early August 2026. While the near-term profitability remains under pressure from input costs, the company maintains a strong balance sheet with net cash of over ₹900 crore. Management has indicated that they expect margin recovery to begin in the third quarter of the fiscal year, provided that commodity prices stabilize and inventory levels in the trade channel return to normal. Investors will likely track the company's ability to protect its margins in upcoming quarters and the execution pace of its large data center order book, which remains a key growth monitorable for the business.
