Global packaging giant Ball Corporation is set to significantly boost its presence in India with a $60 million investment to expand its Sri City manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh. This strategic move is designed to meet the escalating demand for aluminium packaging solutions and fortify its supply chain within the country. This expansion follows the company's substantial investment of nearly $55 million in its Taloja can manufacturing plant in Maharashtra earlier in 2024. Mandy Glew, President of Ball Beverage Packaging EMEA and Asia, stated that India is a key component of their global strategy, reflecting a focused approach to scaling operations in high-growth markets. The company is also exploring further investments to support India's market expansion as more brands and consumers opt for aluminium packaging. The Indian beverage can market is forecasted to achieve more than 10% annual growth over the next five years. This growth is primarily driven by increasing demand for sustainable packaging and the rise of convenient options like ready-to-drink and dairy beverages, which Ball's retort technology helps preserve with extended shelf life. Manish Joshi, Regional Commercial Director – Asia, emphasized that this investment strengthens their ability to serve customers with enhanced speed, flexibility, and reliability. Ball Corporation first entered the Indian market in 2016 and currently operates manufacturing facilities in Taloja and Sri City, supplying various can formats to leading domestic and international brands.
Impact: This substantial investment signals strong confidence in India's economic growth and consumer market, especially within the beverage sector. It is expected to enhance the availability and potentially competitive pricing of aluminium cans for Indian beverage companies, supporting their growth and sustainability goals. The expansion will also create jobs and boost the regional economy in Andhra Pradesh. Rating: 8/10.
