BHEL Shares Hit 52-Week High After Q2 Profit Doubles

BHEL shares climbed over 4% to a 52-week high of ₹460.90 after the firm reported a 120% jump in Q2 net profit to ₹810 crore. Revenue grew 23.8% as margins improved to 11.03%. The company also announced a ₹500 crore capital investment to expand its thermal and nuclear equipment manufacturing capacity.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) shares surged on Wednesday, reaching a fresh 52-week high of ₹460.90, as the market responded to the company's strong financial performance for the quarter ending September 2026. The state-run engineering major reported a net profit of ₹810 crore, marking a 120.2% increase compared to ₹368 crore in the same period last year. This performance comfortably exceeded market expectations and signaled a robust recovery in operational scale.

Revenue from operations rose by 23.8% to reach ₹9,300 crore. A key highlight for investors was the significant improvement in profitability, with EBITDA margins widening to 11.03% from 7.73% in the previous year. This expansion in margins suggests that the company has been successful in enhancing its operational efficiency and controlling costs while executing its large order book.

Strategic Investment and Consolidation

Beyond the quarterly numbers, the company’s board approved a ₹500 crore capital expenditure plan to bolster its manufacturing capabilities for thermal and nuclear power equipment at the Haridwar facility. This investment aligns with the ongoing national focus on strengthening energy infrastructure, which has been a primary demand driver for the sector. To further optimize its manufacturing footprint, the company also announced the merger of its Mumbai Electrical Machines Repair Plant with its Bengaluru Electronics Division. This integration, scheduled for November 2026, is intended to streamline service delivery and consolidate internal resources.

Investor Monitorables and Risks

While the Q2 results demonstrate strong momentum, the company’s outlook remains tied to the power and industrial sectors. Success for BHEL depends on a steady pipeline of new project awards and the efficient management of working capital. For investors, the key monitorables include the company's ability to maintain these improved profit margins against potential inflationary pressures on raw material costs. Furthermore, large-scale infrastructure projects involving thermal and nuclear technology inherently carry execution risks, such as potential delays or cost escalations, which could impact future financial performance. Keeping track of order execution timelines and the progress of the announced capacity expansion will be essential for assessing the company's long-term growth trajectory.
