BEML Shares Fall Up to 7% After Q2 Profit Drops 31%

BEML Limited reported a 31% decline in net profit to ₹33 crore for the September quarter, despite a 42% surge in revenue to ₹1,192 crore. The rise in material and operational costs led to margin pressure, causing the stock to trade lower by 4-7% on November 5, 2026. Investors are now focused on how the company plans to manage its ₹21,388 crore order book while controlling rising input expenses.

BEML Limited shares saw downward pressure on Thursday after the company released its financial results for the second quarter of the 2027 financial year. While the defense and heavy equipment manufacturer reported a significant 42.1% jump in revenue from operations to ₹1,192 crore, the bottom line did not see a similar trend. Net profit for the period dropped 31.3% to ₹33 crore compared to the same quarter last year.

The decline in profitability highlights the impact of rising costs, which outpaced the revenue growth during the quarter. The company faced a clear squeeze on its profit margins as expenses related to raw materials and operations climbed significantly. Specifically, the EBITDA margin—a key measure of operating profitability—fell to 6.7% from 8.7% in the year-ago period. A sharp increase in tax expenses also contributed to the lower net profit, further affecting investor sentiment and resulting in a stock price decline of approximately 4% to 7% during intraday trading on November 5, 2026.

Despite the immediate fiscal hurdles, BEML maintains a strong pipeline of work. As of September 30, 2026, the company reported a total order book of ₹21,388 crore. Management has stated that ₹3,421 crore of this value is expected to be executed within the current financial year, while the remaining balance provides revenue visibility for future years. This large backlog suggests steady demand for the company’s products in the long run.

The core challenge for BEML remains execution profitability. While the company is successfully booking revenue, the ability to protect profit margins against fluctuating raw material and input costs will be essential. Moving forward, shareholders may track the company's progress in managing these operational expenses and executing the existing order book to improve margins in the coming quarters. The company has also received permission from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs to forgo reporting segment-wise financial data, which provides some change in its disclosure structure.
