UP Government Launches ₹5 Lakh Cashless Medical Scheme For 12 Lakh Teachers

The Uttar Pradesh government has introduced the Mukhyamantri Shikshak Cashless Chikitsa Suvidha Yojana, offering up to ₹5 lakh in medical coverage to 12 lakh education staff. The state will bear the entire ₹3,000 annual premium, ensuring access to empanelled hospitals without upfront costs.

The Uttar Pradesh government has officially rolled out the Mukhyamantri Shikshak Cashless Chikitsa Suvidha Yojana to provide financial protection against medical emergencies for the state's education workforce. This healthcare program is designed to cover approximately 12 lakh beneficiaries, including teachers, instructors, Shiksha Mitras, and other staff members within the Education Department, along with their families.

Financial Structure of the Healthcare Plan

Under the terms of this initiative, the state government will take full responsibility for the annual premium of ₹3,000 per beneficiary. By absorbing this cost, the government removes the need for teachers to pay out-of-pocket premiums, which is intended to ensure that health security is accessible to all eligible employees regardless of their pay grade. The scheme provides a coverage limit of up to ₹5 lakh per family, which applies to various medical requirements including hospital admissions, surgeries, ICU stays, and specialist consultations.

Implementation and Access to Treatment

To manage the program, the state will issue a specific Cashless Medical Card to each eligible employee. This card serves as the primary tool for identification and verification at a network of government-run and private hospitals that have been empanelled under the scheme. This system is designed to streamline the hospital admission process and simplify the claims cycle, reducing the administrative burden typically associated with medical reimbursement.

Scope of Medical Services

The health cover is structured to be comprehensive, covering a broad spectrum of medical needs such as diagnostic testing, emergency medical services, and necessary medications. While inpatient hospitalization remains the primary focus, the inclusion of outpatient department services remains subject to specific regulatory provisions. This initiative represents a government-led effort to provide a social security net for the state's large education workforce, addressing the rising costs of healthcare that can otherwise cause significant financial strain during medical crises.

Next Steps for Beneficiaries

The next critical update for employees will be the official notification regarding the empanelled hospital list and the operational timeline for the distribution of the Cashless Medical Cards. As the scheme rolls out, the state administration is expected to provide further details on the portal or office locations where employees can register or check their eligibility status.
