Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has inaugurated ₹113 crore worth of healthcare infrastructure projects across the state. The expansion includes new buildings and advanced medical equipment in several districts to improve patient access to emergency and specialized care. These projects aim to reduce travel time for patients requiring critical treatments like radiotherapy and intensive care services.
Tamil Nadu has taken a significant step toward strengthening its public healthcare infrastructure with the official inauguration of projects worth ₹113 crore. These investments are directed toward upgrading government hospitals across multiple districts, focusing on enhancing surgical capacity, diagnostic services, and specialized medical care.
Among the key developments is the upgrade of the Aranthangi Government Hospital, which has been elevated to a district headquarters hospital. The facility now features a new six-storey building constructed at a cost of ₹46 crore, supported by an additional ₹2.81 crore investment in modern diagnostic equipment. This expansion includes essential services such as CT scan and X-ray units, a blood bank, and a neonatal intensive care unit, which are expected to support patients under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme.
In the Virudhunagar district, the Sivakasi Government Hospital underwent a major expansion totaling ₹32.65 crore. This project added a new six-storey block and increased the hospital’s bed capacity by 150, bringing the total to 290 beds. The facility now includes a dedicated wing for maternal and child health, alongside a new intensive care unit, which is crucial for managing critical cases locally.
Cancer care in southern Tamil Nadu has also received a boost with the opening of a dedicated Radiotherapy Centre at the Kanyakumari Government Medical College Hospital. Built at a cost of ₹6.78 crore with support from the World Bank under the Tamil Nadu Health System Reform Programme, this centre features a modern radiotherapy machine housed in a 20-bed bunker building. By providing advanced oncology services closer to home, this facility is designed to reduce the financial and physical burden on patients who previously had to travel to major cities for treatment.
Additional infrastructure improvements were completed in various other regions, including Thiruvallur, Dindigul, and Villupuram districts. These smaller-scale investments, ranging from ₹1.05 crore to ₹3.50 crore per location, are intended to improve daily outpatient, radiology, and emergency services for residents in these areas. The state government’s focus on distributing these upgrades across various districts reflects an attempt to improve healthcare accessibility in both urban and semi-urban centers.
