RPG Life Sciences plans to invest ₹500 crore over the next 12 months to expand its Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) capacity. This investment follows an initial ₹200 crore deployment and is part of a broader strategy to reach ₹2,500 crore in revenue by 2030 through strategic acquisitions.
RPG Life Sciences is ramping up its expansion efforts with a fresh commitment of ₹500 crore, to be deployed within the next 12 months. This investment is aimed at strengthening the company’s manufacturing capabilities and expanding its footprint in the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) market. The company is pursuing this growth through a mix of business integration and strategic acquisitions, aiming to hit a revenue milestone of ₹2,000 crore to ₹2,500 crore by 2030.
To execute this strategy, the company has hived off its API business into a dedicated subsidiary named RPG Active Pharma. This structure is supported by a capital commitment of ₹700 crore, which includes a ₹243 crore investment from private equity firm InvAscent for a 40% stake in the subsidiary. The firm has already utilized ₹200 crore of this total budget for the acquisitions of Actis Generics and the API and intermediates business of Raghava Life Sciences. These moves are designed to help the company secure better regulatory access and diversify its product offerings.
Financially, the company has maintained steady momentum. In the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, it reported revenue growth of 15.8%, reaching ₹195.7 crore. Profitability has also remained a focus, with EBITDA margins widening to 24.5% during the same period. The company's domestic formulation business, which accounts for approximately 70% of its total revenue, continues to be a primary contributor to its performance.
While the company is scaling up, investors should be aware of the specific challenges associated with an aggressive acquisition-led growth model. A key risk involves the integration of the newly acquired assets into the existing business, as merging different operations can lead to management complexities or cost overruns. The company's future performance is heavily tied to the success of these inorganic expansion efforts. Additionally, the business remains sensitive to market risks such as price erosion in the competitive API segment and potential regulatory hurdles in export markets.
For investors, the primary monitorables will be the company’s ability to successfully integrate the recent acquisitions and maintain its margin profile while scaling the API business. Market participants will also track the execution of further acquisitions planned under the ₹500 crore investment program, as well as the company’s progress in extending its presence in super-specialty segments like cardiology and nephrology.
