RPG Life Sciences is scaling its API segment with new acquisitions and a Rs 243 crore investment from InvAscent, targeting 25% annual growth. While revenue grew, the latest quarterly profit declined due to costs linked to this restructuring. Investors should track how the company integrates these new facilities and manages its ambitious expansion strategy.
RPG Life Sciences is aggressively pushing into the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) market, moving to establish this segment as a primary growth driver. The company recently completed the transfer of its API business to a dedicated subsidiary, RPG Active Pharma, which secured an initial investment of Rs 243 crore from private equity firm InvAscent. This funding is part of a larger planned capital pool of Rs 700 crore, aimed at scaling operations and pursuing further acquisitions to meet a target of 25% annual growth over the next five years.
To accelerate this strategy, the company has completed the acquisitions of Actis Generics and the API and intermediates business of Raghava Life Sciences. These deals have significantly boosted the company’s manufacturing capacity, which has surged from 110 KL to 505 KL. The company is actively scouting for additional assets, particularly those with existing international regulatory approvals, to further diversify its portfolio and capitalize on global shifts toward supply chain de-risking.
Financial Performance and Restructuring Costs
The company’s latest financial performance highlights the impact of this rapid transformation. For the quarter ending September 2026, RPG Life Sciences reported revenue of Rs 211.6 crore, representing a 16.5% increase compared to the same period last year. However, net profit fell by 23.4% to Rs 28.22 crore. This decline is largely attributed to one-off costs associated with the business restructuring and the integration of the recently acquired assets.
While the API segment is the current focus, the company's legacy domestic formulations business remains a steady performer. This segment grew by 11.6% during the September quarter, driven largely by its pain-management brand, Naprosyn, which has crossed the Rs 100 crore annual sales milestone.
Integration Risks and Future Outlook
For investors, the primary monitorable in the coming quarters will be the execution of this expansion strategy. Rapidly scaling a business through inorganic growth brings inherent integration risks. Successfully merging operations, retaining technical talent, and aligning the acquired facilities with international regulatory standards—such as USFDA approvals—are critical steps to realizing the anticipated synergies.
Management has indicated that approximately Rs 500 crore of the total capital pool remains available for further strategic deals. The company's ability to maintain its profit margins while absorbing these expansion costs will be key. Investors may watch for future updates on capacity utilization rates at the new facilities and how quickly the newly acquired assets contribute to the bottom line as the restructuring phase concludes.
