Piramal Pharma has reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 5 crore for the second quarter, marking a turnaround from the Rs 99 crore loss a year ago. Revenue grew by 28% to Rs 2,617 crore, though rising operational expenses remain a key focus for investors as the company balances its growth strategy with cost management.
Piramal Pharma has marked a return to profitability for the quarter ending September 2026, reporting a consolidated net profit of Rs 5 crore. This is a shift for the company, which recorded a loss of Rs 99.22 crore during the same period in the previous year. The improvement in financial performance comes on the back of a strong top-line expansion, with the company generating revenue of Rs 2,617.06 crore, up 28% from Rs 2,043.72 crore in the previous year.
The pharmaceutical company, which operates in the Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) and hospital generics space, has been working to scale its business. While the 28% revenue growth indicates demand for its products and services, the financial performance remains sensitive to its cost structure. Total expenses for the quarter rose to Rs 2,589.10 crore, compared to Rs 2,170.29 crore in the same quarter last year. This rise in spending highlights the challenges of managing large-scale pharmaceutical operations, where factors like raw material costs, manufacturing overheads, and logistics can pressure profit margins.
For investors, the key point is the company’s ability to move past the loss-making phase that characterized previous quarters. The CDMO business model often requires significant investment in technology and capacity, which can keep margins tight until the benefits of scale fully reflect in the results. The company’s focus on complex hospital generics and consumer healthcare is part of a strategy to diversify revenue sources. However, with operational costs increasing alongside revenue growth, profitability remains dependent on how effectively the company can control these expenses.
Piramal Pharma’s stock price closed 1.69% higher at Rs 198.45 on the Bombay Stock Exchange following the announcement, reflecting a cautious but positive response to the return to profit. Moving forward, shareholders will likely track whether the company can maintain this profitability trend while managing its debt and operational spending. The sustainability of this performance will depend on the company’s success in executing high-value contracts and optimizing manufacturing efficiency across its global facilities.
