Natco Pharma Faces 4 US FDA Observations At Vizag Unit

Natco Pharma has concluded a US FDA inspection at its Visakhapatnam facility, receiving four observations. The company stated the findings are procedural and plans to respond within 15 days. This regulatory update comes alongside the firm's recent announcement of a significant year-on-year decline in quarterly profits and revenues.

Natco Pharma has announced the conclusion of a US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspection at its Finished Dosage Formulations (FDF) manufacturing facility in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The inspection, conducted at the Parawada plant between August 17 and August 21, 2026, resulted in the regulator issuing four observations.

In regulatory terms, the US FDA issues a Form 483 to document findings observed by inspectors during the visit. This form is communicated to the facility at the end of the inspection and represents observations for the company to address, rather than a final verdict on manufacturing practices. Natco Pharma has a 15-day window to submit a formal response outlining the corrective actions it plans to take. The company has publicly stated that it views these observations as procedural in nature and remains confident in its ability to address them within the required timeline.

This regulatory update arrives at a time when the company is navigating a challenging financial period. In its first quarter results, Natco Pharma reported a 57% year-on-year decline in net profit, which fell to ₹206.5 crore compared to ₹480.7 crore in the previous year. Revenue also contracted by 44.7% to ₹735.2 crore, down from ₹1,328.9 crore. Operational performance metrics were also lower, with EBITDA falling by 67.3% to ₹186.5 crore and margins narrowing to 25.4% from 43% in the year-ago period.

To support future growth, the company's board has approved a fundraising plan of up to ₹2,000 crore through the issuance of equity shares and other securities. Investors typically monitor how such fundraising is utilized, especially when the company is managing current earnings pressure and regulatory inspections.

Regulatory scrutiny is a standard part of operating in the pharmaceutical sector, as companies depend on FDA approvals to sell products in the US market. While procedural observations like those received by Natco Pharma are common, shareholders often track the company's response and any subsequent communication from the regulator to ensure there are no delays in product approvals or exports.

Shares of Natco Pharma closed the trading session on Friday at ₹883.80 on the BSE, registering a modest gain of 0.69% for the day. Moving forward, the key monitorable for investors will be the company’s submission of its corrective action plan and any follow-up updates from the FDA regarding the closure of these observations.
