Metropolis Healthcare Profit Rises 26% on Tier-II/III Expansion

Metropolis Healthcare reported a 26% increase in net profit to ₹56.9 crore for the June quarter, supported by rapid growth in smaller towns. Revenue grew 17% year-on-year to ₹450.2 crore, as the diagnostic firm aggressively targets Tier-II and Tier-III markets. To sustain this momentum, the company plans to add 400 to 500 new centers this fiscal year while keeping capital spending disciplined.

Metropolis Healthcare has reported strong financial results for the June quarter of the 2027 fiscal year, with revenue rising 17% year-on-year to ₹450.2 crore and net profit increasing by 26% to ₹56.9 crore. This performance is closely linked to the company’s strategic push into India’s smaller cities, where the demand for organized diagnostic services is rising.

The company has identified Tier-II and Tier-III towns as key growth drivers. Revenue from these specific regions is growing at approximately 25% annually, which significantly outpaces the 11% growth seen in larger Tier-I cities. This trend suggests that more patients in smaller towns are shifting away from local, unorganized laboratories toward branded diagnostic chains that offer more reliable testing and specialized medical services.

To capture this demand, Metropolis plans to set up 400 to 500 new centers across these regions in the current fiscal year. The company is using a hub-and-spoke model, which allows it to maintain service quality while expanding its geographic reach. Despite this aggressive expansion, management is maintaining a disciplined approach to spending, with the capital expenditure budget set at ₹65 crore for the year. The strategy also focuses on educating local doctors about advanced diagnostic tests, which helps increase the volume of samples sent to Metropolis laboratories for specialized testing.

While the growth numbers are positive, the diagnostics sector remains highly competitive. The company faces ongoing pressure from both large national corporate chains and strong regional players. Maintaining high service standards while rapidly scaling up operations in new markets is a key operational challenge. Additionally, the business is sensitive to changes in the healthcare regulatory landscape and potential price caps on diagnostic tests, which are common risks in the sector.

Investors may track how effectively the company executes its goal of adding hundreds of new centers, as maintaining profit margins amid competitive pressure will be important for future performance. The company’s operating margins improved by 210 basis points to 25.2% during the June quarter, indicating that it is currently managing to balance expansion with operational efficiency.
