Lupin has launched Formoflo-G MDI, a triple-combination inhaler for moderate to severe COPD, approved by the DCGI. The product targets over 55 million patients in India, aiming to strengthen the company’s position in the respiratory therapy market. Investors are tracking how this expansion influences the firm's margins and domestic market share.
Lupin Limited has launched Formoflo-G MDI in India, a new triple-combination inhaler designed to treat moderate to severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Approved by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI), the device combines three active ingredients—Glycopyrronium Bromide, Formoterol Fumarate, and Fluticasone Propionate—into a single metered-dose inhaler. The product is intended to be used twice daily to help improve treatment compliance for patients.
This launch comes as Lupin looks to solidify its standing in the Indian respiratory therapy market, where it currently holds the second position according to IQVIA data for March 2026. With estimates suggesting that more than 55 million people in India live with COPD, the company aims to address a large and growing healthcare requirement.
Lupin’s financial position provides stability for such product expansions. In the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, the company reported a net-cash-positive status with a net debt of approximately negative 28,308 million rupees, indicating a strong balance sheet. As the firm invests in complex respiratory products, the management has stated expectations for operating margins to stabilize around 24 to 25 percent in FY27. Investors will be observing whether this new product can effectively gain market share while maintaining these margin targets.
Shares of Lupin were trading around 2,015 rupees on the day of the announcement, reflecting a modest gain of approximately 0.2 percent. The pharmaceutical sector remains highly competitive, and the success of this inhaler will depend on its adoption by medical professionals and patients compared to existing treatment options. Future performance monitorables include the speed of product adoption in the domestic market, the company's ability to navigate potential pricing pressures, and the execution of its broader respiratory portfolio strategy.
