Laurus Labs Q2 Profit More Than Doubles to ₹441 Crore

Laurus Labs posted a 126% rise in net profit to ₹441 crore for the second quarter, driven by strong growth in its CDMO business. The company is scaling its peptide manufacturing capacity and has acquired a 60% stake in Canadian biotech firm Galenvs Sciences. Investors will look to monitor how this acquisition and new plant capacity contribute to profit margins and revenue growth in the coming quarters.

Laurus Labs reported a strong financial performance for the second quarter, with net profit surging 126% to ₹441 crore compared to ₹195 crore in the same period last year. Revenue for the Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical company rose 33% to ₹2,206 crore. This growth was supported by the company’s push into the Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) space and demand for its medicine portfolio.

A key highlight for the company is its move toward higher-value products in the TIDES segment, which includes peptides and oligonucleotides. To support this growth, Laurus Labs has operationalized a commercial-scale peptide plant in Vizag. This plant uses advanced technology to handle increased demand for specialized therapeutics. The company has been investing in these technologies to strengthen its position in the CDMO sector, aiming to serve clients from early-stage development to full-scale commercial production.

In addition to internal expansion, the company is looking to enhance its research capabilities globally. Laurus Labs has signed an agreement to acquire a 60% stake in the Canadian firm Galenvs Sciences. The company will invest a total of $3.75 million, which includes a primary investment of $2.75 million. Galenvs Sciences specializes in magnetic nanoparticles and oligonucleotide technologies. By integrating these assets, Laurus Labs plans to improve its development process for advanced medicines. The company stated that Galenvs will maintain its focus on scientific innovation under the new ownership.

For investors, the key area to monitor will be how effectively the company integrates the new Canadian business and ramps up production at the Vizag plant. While the shift from traditional API manufacturing to complex CDMO services is intended to improve long-term business potential, it also requires successful execution of new projects and managing the complexities of global expansion. Investors may continue to track whether this strategic pivot leads to sustainable improvements in profit margins and how the company manages the demand for its specialized services in a competitive pharmaceutical market.
