Strategic Facility Overhaul
Jaslok Hospital, a leading healthcare provider in Mumbai, is embarking on a significant ₹300-400 crore modernization project. This extensive, ten-year initiative, launched in 2020, aims to update a facility that has served the community for over 50 years. The primary goal is to carry out these crucial upgrades without interrupting patient services, a challenge met through careful planning and a phased, floor-by-floor renovation strategy. The project addresses the building's structural soundness, especially given its seaside location and exposure to salt air, and incorporates cutting-edge medical technology.
Maintaining Operations During Renovation
Vinod P. Chanrai, chairman of the hospital's managing trust, emphasized the need for this major refurbishment, citing the original building materials and environmental factors. Instead of closing, the hospital is systematically renovating section by section. This involves removing old materials, reinforcing key structural elements like columns, and rebuilding internal systems. A substantial part of the investment is also dedicated to replacing older diagnostic and treatment equipment with the latest technology. The 350-bed hospital, located on Peddar Road, handles a large number of patients and also plans to establish a new nursing college in Navi Mumbai.
Financial Health and Future Outlook
Jaslok Hospital shows consistent annual revenue growth of 8% to 12%. Profits are regularly reinvested into improving the hospital's infrastructure. The hospital's operations are nearly self-sustaining, with the founding family providing financial support for major capital projects. Additionally, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding is increasingly utilized for these ongoing capital works. This renovation ensures Jaslok Hospital can continue to meet Mumbai's healthcare demands effectively, despite limited options for physical expansion at its prime site.
