India’s iOncology.ai, a government-led research project by AIIMS and C-DAC, gained international attention at the recent BRICS Summit. As a pilot-stage initiative focused on AI-driven cancer diagnostics, the platform highlights the growing integration of artificial intelligence into public healthcare systems.
The iOncology.ai platform, a collaborative research initiative between the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), was showcased at the 18th BRICS Summit held in New Delhi on September 12–13, 2026. Featured in a special edition of The BRICS Health Journal, the technology is designed to assist medical professionals in the early detection and risk mapping of cancers by analyzing radiological and histopathological data.
The project marks a significant step in the government's efforts to standardize cancer management across India using digital infrastructure. By automating the analysis of clinical datasets, the goal is to improve accuracy and speed in identifying cancer cases, addressing the heavy burden of the disease in the Global South.
